Although they both do similar jobs there are some basic differences which you need to be aware of when choosing which system you need.
Your station will be automatically added to the popular Shoutcast online radio directory.
If you need to switch between Live broadcast and AutoDJ you will need to be logged into your control panel to switch between the two.
Although you can be added to the Icecast online radio directory it isn’t as popular as the Shoutcast directory. You can of course always add your station manually to the many online radio directories available.
If you need to switch between live broadcast and AutoDJ this couldn’t be easier with an Icecast setup. If you are playing your content from the AutoDJ and you want to start to broadcast live, our servers will sense you starting to broadcast live and switch over seemlessly to your live stream. When you disconnect your live stream the AutoDJ will resume.
Icecast also supports the Ogg Vorbis streaming format but most users are happy to stream using mp3 (MPEG Layer3). The amount of possible listeners or devices which your listeners can tune in with are the same as Shoutcast.
